This week we have had our first babies as new homesteaders.
To say we are excited is an understatement!
Harriet one of our hens has been brooding on 6 eggs for what seems like weeks.
Last Friday I did some research, and I decided that our roosters and hens posed a threat to the babies if I left them to hatch in the big pen with Mumma.
So I separated Mumma Harriet and her 6 eggs, Harriet was not happy at the move but eventually settled.
ONE day later the first hatchling arrived, a sweet fluffy Yellow Chick we are calling Sunshine.
Then over the next 5 days, she hatched 3 more chicks.
She continues to sit on the remaining 2 eggs, one I know isn’t her’s as its too large and likely from one of our 4 new hens, the other 1 either isn’t viable or it needs a few more days
I am sure you will agree they are seriously adorable.
